Mae Chesney

Classically-trained professional ballet dancer and teacher, Mae received her BFA from the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. She began teaching dance and fitness in 2011 to clients who range from young ballet dancers, to adults new to dance or group fitness. Mae is certified through STOTT PILATES .

Mae was introduced to Pilates as a method to improve her ballet dancing. She immediately fell in love with Pilates as a way to improve performance, strength, and most importantly prevent injury. Through the years, her love for the method has continued to grow. In every Pilates sessions, Mae shares her passion for Pilates and her excitement to be a part of her students’ journey to strength and fitness. While pushing her clients to the next level, she aims to always be supportive and positive force.

Mary Cobb

IAs a performer, Mary has been a student of movement her whole life. Introduced to Pilates in 2009, she immediately noticed that it deepened her understanding and function in the smaller muscles of the hips, shoulders, and spine. Pilates helped her to safely push through rigorous fitness workouts, as well as support everyday movement with ease. Mary helps her clients connect and strengthen their bodies. She enjoys sharing her knowledge and passion for Pilates with people of all backgrounds. Mary works with a broad range of clients including individuals who want general conditioning and those with a more specialized focus like athletes working to maximize their athletic potential. Training:

Hannah Varga

Program Director

Hannah loves to solve the body’s mysteries, carefully and systematically unlocking its truest and freest movement potential.  A lifetime student of ballet and modern dance, she has trained professionally since her youth and now enjoys encouraging and assisting others in their personal movement goals.  While dancing and training in NYC, she was constantly seeking ways to both maximize her body’s athletic potential and address injuries that would inevitably arise from that pursuit.  This is how she met and fell in love with the Gyrotonic(R) method.  The system gently and methodically improved her alignment, flexibility, strength and well being, resulting in less injury, and a more sophisticated connection to her body.  She began formal training in the Gyrotonic(R) method in 2004 at Studio Riverside in NYC and was certified in 2010 at San Francisco Gyrotonic under master trainer Debra Rose.  Hannah also has an MFA in Dance from UC Irvine where she studied under Donald McKale and Jodi Gates.  Since arriving in the bay area in 2009, she has held various positions as a professional dancer, ballet instructor, and Gyrotonic(R) practitioner.  Now, she incorporates everything she has learned to provide individualized, specific and effective lessons to all students, no matter where on their physical journey she finds them.

Tanja London

Tanja is fascinated by various somatic practices, fascial work and anatomy in general. She loves to dance, choreograph, improvise, make dance films, and linger in the outdoors. Tanja discovered STOTT PILATES® when she moved from Germany to the U.S. in 2006. She fell in love with the detailed anatomical knowledge inherent in the way of teaching this method. She found that it revealed the invisible workings of the body. In 2007 she started her training at PJ O’Clair’s Northeast Pilates Certification Center clubXcel (MA) and completed her certification in 2009. Since 2007 she has been teaching in various capacities in different studios and ran a Pilates Program affiliated with the Exeter Hospital, NH.  She has experience working with people who are dealing with the consequences of injuries and chronic pain. She supports clients in getting or staying fit while helping them to increase their own body knowledge. She is invested in teaching ways of moving that are organically connected and result in a resilient and joyful agility.

Jenna Jones

Jenna is a professional dancer who has taught ballet, contemporary, and jazz dance for over ten years. She discovered Pilates after experiencing several injuries which were due in part to muscular imbalances. With Pilates Jenna quickly rehabilitated her injuries as well as learn techniques to prevent them in the future.

Jenna is excited to share her love for movement, health, and exercise with others through the Pilates method. Jenna is committed to working closely with clients to help them reach their individual fitness goals. She offers dynamic and energetic sessions focused on proper alignment, balance, strength, and stamina.

Jenna has trained in mat, Reformer, and Stability Chair and is currently working towards full certification in STOTT PILATES. She has taught clients from professional dancers to office workers with limited movement experience.

Elise Smith

Elise is a body positive instructor who came to Pilates and the GYROKINESIS® method through studying ballet as a young person. During her 15 years of classical ballet training, Elise discovered that the more seriously she trained the more frequently her hyper mobile body was injured or in pain. At the urging of her instructors and physical therapists she began to explore the therapeutic benefits of Pilates. After spending years studying with ballet instructors who were also Pilates and GYROKINESIS® trainers, Elise chose to pursue a career as a movement educator. In 2007 she received a comprehensive Pilates Instructor Certification through Long Beach Dance Conditioning where she studied directly with Marie-Jose Blom.

She was first introduced to the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSYTEM® at the 2005 Alonzo King’s LINES Summer Intensive. Her study of GYROKINESIS® exercise continued with Alicia Head. Elise completed her GYROKINESIS® Level 1 Foundations Course in August 2018 and Apprentice Reviewin November 2018 both under Alicia Head. She is a GYROKINESIS® Level 1 Apprentice who is eager to share this liberating system with her clients.

After nearly 20  years teaching Pilates, and a professional ballet career,

I’m called to give voice to the gifts Pilates has brought to my life- inside and outside of the studio.

I don’t believe Pilates is “just exercise”. Rather, I believe it’s a way of seeing the world, and moving through it with strength, grace, and the ability to give back with out giving in or giving up.

Starting re:ACTION PILATES has been a long time dream in the making. Here we will open our space to ALL and offer what is deeply intelligent, body-positive, and supportive fitness and wellness education. Here you'll find a connection to your core, your breath, and your heart.

And in full disclosure, you might just look better in your jeans too.

Can’t wait to see you in class.

In gratitude,

   Christy Crowley
